Overview

In the former integrated state of Bihar, the development of electric power generation and supply did not receive the attention and priority it deserved. Despite being the second most populated state in terms of natural resources, the state has the lowest capacity for power generation. The state had just 1500 MW installed capacity, or 20 watts per capita, compared to the national average of 100 watts per capita. The department's undertakings are - Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. - Ranchi, Jharkhand Bijali Vitran Nigam Ltd.- Ranchi, Jharkhand Urja Utpadan Nigam Ltd.- Ranchi, Jharkhand Urja Sancharan Nigam Ltd.- Ranchi, Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency- Ranchi, Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Ltd.
